Curls everywhere, Jack Nicholson (as in The Shining) lookin’ everytime he woke up and general wooliness spurred us to take Xavier for his first haircut. We had heard about this place in Dartmouth Crossing where they specialized in kids cuts and had fun things for the kiddies to sit on, ummm.. be distracted by… while they got their hair cut. Sounded like just the place for the X man’s first cut!

Xavier chose (was strongly encouraged by Mommy??!!) to sit on the motorcycle for his haircut. He didn’t even mind when the hairdresser put the big cape on him. There was no fussing at all.  X was quite happy to sit and have his hair cut as long as he had something to chew on.  The chewing on unfortunately turned out to be the clip from the hairdressers apron that he lifted but hey… he was happy.

Twenty minutes later we were walking out with a first haircut certificate, three envelopes of curls (for Mommy, Grammy and Nanny) and one incredibly handsome little munchkin! I can’t believe he’s had his first haircut!!

Mr. Xavier has been a very busy boy. Besides growing like a weed  he has been getting into everything  and anything!! He is not quite crawling yet but working hard on it. He can sorta wiggle backwards and side to side but forward propulsion is lost on him so far!

X man is now eating pretty much all of the fruits and veggies and meats. Starting on breads and “big people” food soon. I attempted to feed him homemade carrots one day and he was quite disgusted with me and them!! I think it’s a texture thing – he loves strained baby food carrots! Oh well… we’ll try them again. In  the meantime he makes alot of funny faces eating the not so strained carrots.  He also loves banana. When we were in Cape Breton Poppy introduced him to the joys of smushing a bite of banana in his mouth. Xavier loves to hold the banana  and tries to get his whole little mouth around it !!

Every little boy needs a swimming pool and Xavier is no exception. He has a “big” mushroom shaped pool that came complete with floaty mushrooms and butterflies!! He got quite the kick of sitting and splashing in his pool. The only bad part is now that he has enjoyed his pool and playing with all the floaties in there, it impossible to get him to lay down in the tub anymore!!

Poppa Jim, ever the baby entainer, dug out Daddy’s old 80’s synthesizer and brought it over for X to try out! Xavier loves music and bops around whenever he hears a tune. The keybaord was great fun. It took him a few minutes to figure it all out but once he got started he had a great time pressing all the buttons and making new sounds. Perhaps a great pianist is in our future??

Xavier’s first Canada Day was much fun! We went to downtown Halifax for a pancake breakfast – poor X couldn’t partake this year- then it was off to watch the tattoo parade. Xavier didn’t mind the loud bands and commotion at all. He was too busy taking it all in. X got to have a nice cereal, fruit and milk lunch in the public gardens while he watched all the ducks and birds, which is one of his favourite things to do! After lunch it was off to the Halifax Commons to watch the other kids in the group jump on bouncy castles and run on the playground. He loved being out in the sunshine and taking in all of the sites, but quickly fell asleep on the way home. He was tuckered out!!

Thursday was a beautiful day in Halifax. Shubie Park has a warm fresh water lake that was just begging for us to visit! It was Xavier’s first water adventure!! The day began with a nature walk on the trails where he yelled and gazed at every bird and squirrel. Then it was time for a bottle of milk and a rice cookie in the great outdoors. He is becoming quite the naturalist- every tweet or leaf rustle got a peek from X. After lunch it was time for toes in the water… and bum! He loved it. His trademark smile and his little giggle was in full effect!! Well… after one has themselves in the water, the next logical thing to do of course is squish your hands in the sand and then try to eat it!! Xavier didn’t seem to mind the taste or texture but Mommy wasn’t too keen on it!! A bum change and a new romper and we were off to home for another day. It was a fun morning. One that we are sure to repeat again…. but perhaps without the sand snacking!!

Xavier has been having fun with his new rolling over ability.  Soon enough I’m sure he’ll be crawling and then walking.  It’s amazing how fast time is going bye.

for a few seconds.

Xavier was having fun playing on our bed so we thought it was a great time for a photo shoot.  He’s been doing pretty good sitting up but we can’t leave him sitting on any hard surfaces yet.  He is showing signs of teeth coming in but we are still waiting for them to come through.

As you can see Xavier has been enjoying his cereal.  This past week he’s been enjoying his Cape Breton roots with Nannie and Poppie Johnston while Mommy was in Toronto.
